A New Orleans Resort Oasis of History, Comfort, and Charm.
Bywater Suite Hotel invites you to experience New Orleans with style, comfort, and a touch of magic —where history meets modern luxury, and every stay feels like coming home.
- Gina 7/07/2026I am a native New Orleanian and when I am home for a visit, we prefer to stay at the Bywater Suites. Our last stay was for almost 3 weeks so we had the opportunity to interact with the owner and some of the long-term guests. The suites are impeccably clean and the pool area is gorgeous. I love how they were able to rehab and repurpose an old school building with interesting architectural details. As long as you know how to avoid the train, the location is perfect. (There are only two sets of tracks that cross St. Claude Ave but a block towards the lake is one end of a 20-track switchyard so trains block traffic multiple times per day. Take Chartres along the river to cross the tracks or head up to N. Claiborne and take the overpass.)read moreread less×Gina7/07/2026I am a native New Orleanian and when I am home for a visit, we prefer to stay at the Bywater Suites. From arrival to departure, we had pleasant interactions, service and overall quality of experience. You’d be doing yourself a good deed by booking your stay at this hotel. If you’re interested in details keep reading.
My wife arrived first and checked in. She received the gate code and parking pass along with the code to access the suite. The suite amenities included a fully functioning electric kitchen including dishwasher and cooking pots and utensils. If you are traveling with kids, be sure to grab foil or a baking sheet for the frozen pizzas or your whipping up your favorite meal during your stay. The two-room suite also had a bathroom for each bedroom, full sized washer and dryer that was perfect for keeping clothes fresh after our adventures in the NOLA heat or the numerous visits to the pool.
The common areas were well maintained and always clean. This brings me to the pool. The area around the pool is kept clean and as luxurious as you see in the photos. Towels for the pool are provided for you and are coloured differently than your bath towels. Just ask for how many you want at the front desk and drop them in the bin near the front desk after use.
Two things to note. Ms. Rachel, the owner and operator is frequently present and were delighted to meet her and here of the history of the hotel and its continued value and significance to the neighbourhood. She also provided suggestions of a myriad of things to do and places to eat during our stay. Both Ms. Rachel and her team of staff were eager to help if we had any questions or concerns. Speaking of which, we had 2 short bouts of connectivity issues which where quickly addressed by the hotel staff (including Ms. Rachel on one of the occasions.)
The parking lot is secure and you certainly can walk the neighbourhood safely and with ease of mind. A view of the mighty Mississippi River is a 6 block walk through the tree lined streets to the pedestrian bridge. One of the food options close by is Elizabeth’s Restaurant for breakfast or brunch. They close at 2:3-PM daily. Dining there is a must!
Location-wise, you are a 15-minute drive from the French Quarters or you can catch the charming trolley right outside on St. Claude. Wonderful attractions such as Coulet Gardens (13 min walk), JamNOLA, MusicBox Village, the New Orleans Jazz Museum and the National World War II Museum are within a 20-minute drive from your suite (traffic included). Again, if you aren’t into the noise and action of the FQ every night, Holy Angels Bywater is perfect.
This hotel will be my first pick if I’m planning to visit or to recommend to my friends. I would definitely stay here again. Incredible value for the price.
Maybe clarify parking when you stay. We were able to park for free in the lot, our friends who arrived later were going to be charged to park in the lot so they parked on the street.read moreread less×Anna2/15/2026Great place, very clean. All the front desk staff have been extremely friendly. It has been quiet and peaceful and clean. It has a gated parking lot, which feels safe. It's an easy rideshare trip to go down to the French Quarter. We love walking around in the neighborhood too. Hopefully, sometime I will get to go when it's warm and make use of the pool.
